Empire Waist
An empire waist wedding dress is one of the best styles of dresses
for plus size brides who want to hide their tummy. If your tummy is your
trouble spot, selecting an empire wedding dress may give you more confidence as
you walk down the aisle. An empire waist bridal gown has the “waist” at the
bottom of the bust, with long, flowing fabric that conceals the tummy, hips and
thighs. Since the fabric is loose and isn’t fitted to your body, it is an
excellent option for women who want to opt for comfort in addition to style.
Deep Cleavage Wedding Dresses
Many curvy brides have great cleavage, and unless you’re having
a super conservative wedding, there’s no need to keep it all hidden.
Highlighting your bust in a bridal gown with a deep cleavage - such as a halter
top bridal gown or wedding dresses with a sweetheart neckline - will also draw
the attention away from other trouble areas, such as thicker arms, tummy and
thighs. If your breasts are your best asset, consider trying on some deep
cleavage wedding at your local bridal salon to see how they look. You might
just find that they cover what you want them to cover, while highlighting your
assets.
Strapless Wedding Gowns
Some brides with curvy figures like to wear strapless wedding
gowns, because it helps the eye to focus on the neckline and face area, instead
of the rest of the bride’s body. With a strapless wedding gown, it’s essential
to get the right fit so you don’t have a “muffin top” over the strapless part,
or “rolls” over the back of your dress. A dress that is too tight at the top
will create them, so make sure you get properly fitted for a wedding dress,
even if you’re going to purchase your bridal gown online. Also, consider
ordering your gown one size bigger than you need so that your seamstress or
tailor can fit the gown to your precise measurements in all areas of the dress.
Gowns With Sleeves
Many plus size brides are self conscious about their arms, and
a wedding gown with sleeves can be just what you need to give yourself the
confidence and comfort you want on your wedding day. You don’t have to get long
sleeves, and even thin, sheer fabric will work. You’re not trying to cover your
arms up essentially, you’re just trying to give the eye something else to look
at besides your actual arm. If your goal is to make your arms look smaller in
your bridal gown, consider getting a gown with sleeves that feature some sort
of pattern. Beading, lace or a mixture of fabrics will work nicely here.
Sometimes, if sleeves are created from one piece of fabric without any pattern
to it, it will actually make the arm look bigger
- as though the sleeve is accentuating it. However, a pattern one the
sleeve will give the eye something to look at besides the bride’s actual arms.
A-Line Wedding Gowns
An A-line wedding gown is by far the most versatile style of
wedding dress out there. It looks fabulous on almost everyone, whether you’re a
petite bride or a curvy one. The waist sits at just the right level, and the
skirt flares out just enough to help every bride look their best on their
wedding day. Consider pairing an a-line wedding gown style with sleeves or a
deep cleavage to work your curves in all the right ways!
Remember that on your wedding day, no matter what kind of dress
you choose, the best thing you can wear is a smile. Be confident and strut your
stuff when you walk down the aisle and you will look radiant - no matter what
style of dress you’re wearing.
