6 Inexpensive Wedding Dresses That Look Like Designer Gowns

Inexpensive wedding dresses don’t have to look like you bought them off the rack – or like you got a killer deal on them. If you look for the right wedding gown accents and shop smart, especially if you’re shopping online, you can find inexpensive wedding dresses that actually look like designer gowns. Here are some dress details that will make your guests believe you bought the finest designer gown you could find!
A Gown With A Jeweled Brooch On The Bodice
Simple gowns with a jeweled brooch accent are popular right now, and many designers keep the gowns basic in an effort to highlight and put the focus on the jeweled brooch. Look for gowns that have an oval brooch, almost like a “cameo” style, with minimal beading on the bodice and an A-line or simple skirt. If you select a gown with a jeweled brooch that has too much other stuff going on, it won’t look as much “designer” as it does overwhelming. Wedding dress designers favor simple designs with one or two focal points.
A Ribbon Trimmed Tulle Skirt
Many popular wedding dress designers are starting to mix shiny satin and fluffy tulle, in both ivory and white colors. If you like the “ribbon trim” look that you see on many veils, you’ll be pleased to find that there are many inexpensive wedding dresses that employ this design element in a gown’s skirt, and while this particular detail looks expensive, it doesn’t have to be. Look for a tiered or layered tulle skirt with wide satin ribbon trim. The bodice should be simple, perhaps crafted from the same satin fabric to streamline the bride’s look and bring focus to the skirt details.
Vintage Style Chiffon Gown With Mermaid Skirt
Vintage style wedding dresses are extremely popular right now, and many wedding gown designers are creating masterpieces that look like they came right out of the 1920’s, minus the long sleeves. Chiffon is a popular fabric choice for vintage style gowns, as is the color ivory. Lace detailing also makes a wedding dress feel more “vintage,” but the mermaid skirt is what completes this look. Look for inexpensive wedding dresses with all of these design elements worked into a single gown and your guests won’t be able to tell that you didn’t pay a fortune for a charming, romantic vintage wedding gown.
Simple A-Line Gown With Tiered Lace Skirt
Many designers are going with more simple designs as opposed to wedding gown designs that are over the top with beading, tulle and lace. A-line gowns are of course among the most popular style of gowns in both designer and inexpensive wedding dresses, so when you select an A-line gown, you’re automatically going with a style that will fool your guests into believing you shopped designer when you really didn’t. You don’t have to go completely plain with your dress though –a tiered skirt, perhaps with lace details will be enough to give your gown some texture without overwhelming you. This style of dress mimics many of the designer styles out there today, and will help you look your best on your big day.
Gowns With Asymmetrical Skirt Details
Asymmetrical skirts are also popular among esteemed wedding gown designers, but that doesn’t mean that one side of your dress is going to be higher than the other – although there are some very pretty gowns out there with this particular detail. Look for inexpensive wedding dresses that offer an asymmetrical layer laid on top of a traditional skirt. This can be a full, frothy layer of tulle or chiffon, or it can be a simple lace layer that just provides a sheer overlay. An understated asymmetrical detail such as this simply says “designer” even if it’s really not.
Halter Top Wedding Gowns
Since strapless and even spaghetti strap wedding gowns have become more popular over the years, many wedding gown designers are looking for something a little different in a neckline, and the halter top is something that a lot of designers are opting to use in their wedding gown designs. A halter top emphasizes a bride’s bust and provides a focal point for the dress that is near the bride’s face. Some of the prettiest halter top dresses are actually strapless gowns with a tulle or chiffon halter “overlay.” These are gorgeous and are flattering to almost every body type. Although you can find halter tops among inexpensive wedding dresses, especially when shopping online, your guests (and even your fiancé) will be fooled into thinking you spent a lot more money on your gown than you really did.

How To Make An A-Line Wedding Gown Work For You

An A-line wedding gown is a type of dress that many brides choose to wear for their big day. The truth is, the A-line wedding gown is flattering on almost any body type, and can work for almost any bride. They hide a multitude of body imperfections, including the spots that most brides hate such as thetummy, butt and hips. Many popular wedding dress designers are sticking to classic A-line weddinggown styles and simply adding other details. Here are some great ways to make you’reA-lineweddingdress more personal and how to use it to express your personal style.
Choose A Strapless A-Line Wedding Gown

Many A-line wedding gowns are strapless, and flatter both thin and plus size brides. If you have great looking shoulders or want to highlight a necklace or a great updo, an A-line strapless gown is definitely the way to go! An A-line strapless gown will not only hide your tummy or hips, it will also draw the eye upwards to the chest and face.
Consider A Drop Waist
If you’re looking to hide tummy troubles with your wedding gown, an A-line is the best choice, however, drop waist A-line wedding gowns are even better for this. A drop waist means that the skirt starts at the hips or slightly lower instead of starting at the actual waist or belly button, giving the bride a longer, leaner look. This helps draw the eye away from the tummy, and actually will help a shorter bride appear taller! A drop waist is flattering for almost any bride, so when you select a gown that is both drop waist and A-line, you’re working to highlight your best aspects while de-emphasizing what you don’t want people to notice as much.
Select A Gown With Intricate Beading Or Lace
An A-line gown can be very simple, or it can be very intricate, depending on the detailing that the designer wants to add to the bodice and skirt. Many brides mistakenly assume that an A-line wedding gown means that you’re going with a more simple look, but that’s not always the case. While you can choose a clean, simple looking A-line gown, you can also choose A-line dresses that are more intricate and detailed. Consider selecting an A-line gown with a heavily beaded bodice, or one with lace detailing if you’re looking for a dress with a lot of “wow.” You’ll get the benefits of a flattering dress style, while still getting the detailing that you’re looking for in a gown.
Choose A Dress With A Full Skirt
An A-line gown will flatter your silhouette, but if you’re looking for a more “princess” style look, select an A-line gown with a fuller skirt. This is a great choice if you like the look of a ball gown but feel like a true ball gown is too formal or overwhelming for the style of your ceremony and reception. An A-line with a fuller skirt will give you the look you want without compromising on the A-line style!
Select Skirts With A Variety Of Fabrics
A-line wedding gowns that have skirts with a variety of fabrics, such as satin and tulle, or lace (or all three!) can provide you with the detailed look you want in a wedding gown, while still keeping your figure lean and long with the A-line cut of the dress. An asymmetrical hem is a bold choice, while some skirts have “pseudo” asymmetrical skirts – an asymmetrical layer of fabric layered over a traditional skirt. If you’re looking for a glamorous look in an A-line gown, a skirt made with a variety of different fabrics (or lots of fun layers) is exactly what you need. However, be aware of long, detailed trains if your skirt is very full and detailed – this can overwhelm you and confuse guests as they’re not sure where to look when they look at you.
No matter what details you choose in your A-line wedding gown, you can be sure that the A-line cut will flatter you nicely on the big day, while also hiding your imperfections and giving you your best overall look!

5 Bridal Gown Styles For Curvy Figures

Wearing a killer bridal gown isn’t just reserved for slender, thin or athletic brides. If you’ve got a curvy figure, you can still look amazing when you walk down the aisle, but finding that perfect wedding dress does take some knowledge of what looks good on your body and what doesn’t. If you wear a bridal gown that doesn’t fit right, or isn’t cut to flatter you, you’re going to be highlighting your flaws for all to see on the big day. However, by selecting your wedding dress from the styles that look best on curvy, sultry bodies, you can draw attention away from your flaws and highlight your assets - giving you the incredible look you really want on your wedding day. Here are five bridal gown styles that will make you look fabulous as you walk down the aisle.

Empire Waist

An empire waist wedding dress is one of the best styles of dresses for plus size brides who want to hide their tummy. If your tummy is your trouble spot, selecting an empire wedding dress may give you more confidence as you walk down the aisle. An empire waist bridal gown has the “waist” at the bottom of the bust, with long, flowing fabric that conceals the tummy, hips and thighs. Since the fabric is loose and isn’t fitted to your body, it is an excellent option for women who want to opt for comfort in addition to style.

Deep Cleavage Wedding Dresses

Many curvy brides have great cleavage, and unless you’re having a super conservative wedding, there’s no need to keep it all hidden. Highlighting your bust in a bridal gown with a deep cleavage - such as a halter top bridal gown or wedding dresses with a sweetheart neckline - will also draw the attention away from other trouble areas, such as thicker arms, tummy and thighs. If your breasts are your best asset, consider trying on some deep cleavage wedding at your local bridal salon to see how they look. You might just find that they cover what you want them to cover, while highlighting your assets.

Strapless Wedding Gowns

Some brides with curvy figures like to wear strapless wedding gowns, because it helps the eye to focus on the neckline and face area, instead of the rest of the bride’s body. With a strapless wedding gown, it’s essential to get the right fit so you don’t have a “muffin top” over the strapless part, or “rolls” over the back of your dress. A dress that is too tight at the top will create them, so make sure you get properly fitted for a wedding dress, even if you’re going to purchase your bridal gown online. Also, consider ordering your gown one size bigger than you need so that your seamstress or tailor can fit the gown to your precise measurements in all areas of the dress.
Gowns With Sleeves

Many plus size brides are self conscious about their arms, and a wedding gown with sleeves can be just what you need to give yourself the confidence and comfort you want on your wedding day. You don’t have to get long sleeves, and even thin, sheer fabric will work. You’re not trying to cover your arms up essentially, you’re just trying to give the eye something else to look at besides your actual arm. If your goal is to make your arms look smaller in your bridal gown, consider getting a gown with sleeves that feature some sort of pattern. Beading, lace or a mixture of fabrics will work nicely here. Sometimes, if sleeves are created from one piece of fabric without any pattern to it, it will actually make the arm look bigger - as though the sleeve is accentuating it. However, a pattern one the sleeve will give the eye something to look at besides the bride’s actual arms.

A-Line Wedding Gowns

An A-line wedding gown is by far the most versatile style of wedding dress out there. It looks fabulous on almost everyone, whether you’re a petite bride or a curvy one. The waist sits at just the right level, and the skirt flares out just enough to help every bride look their best on their wedding day. Consider pairing an a-line wedding gown style with sleeves or a deep cleavage to work your curves in all the right ways!

Remember that on your wedding day, no matter what kind of dress you choose, the best thing you can wear is a smile. Be confident and strut your stuff when you walk down the aisle and you will look radiant - no matter what style of dress you’re wearing.
