Bridal gowns are difficult to choose anyways, but if you’ve got
a slim figure, you may wonder how you can best accentuate your assets while
minimizing your flaws. If you’re curvy and slim, you have lots to choose from,
but if you’re thin and straight, looking feminine on your wedding day can be a
bit of a challenge. No matter what you decide to wear on your wedding day, you
want to look and feel your best! Here are four bridal gowns for women who have
slender, slim or tall figures. Consider trying on these styles at your local
bridal salon, even if you plan to purchase your gown online. Trying on some
basic wedding dress styles can help you narrow down your choices and help you
select the right dress when you do end up making the big purchase!
Mermaid Skirt
A bridal gown with a mermaid skirt is definitely not one of the
better choices for full figured or pear shaped brides, but can be an excellent
choice for a taller, more slender woman. A mermaid skirt wedding gown hugs the
body from the shoulders to around the knee area, where the skirt flares out
with lots of fabric, creating a sort of “mermaid” style. Because it hugs so
close to the body, it’s one of the best choices for a slender woman with little
curvature. The silhouette of this particular style of dress will emphasize what
curves you do have, making you look more feminine and statuesque on the big
day. If you do have a few curves, all the better - the mermaid style bridal gown
will really bring them out and make you look great during your wedding ceremony
and reception!
A drop waist bridal gown is a great choice for brides who have
slim figures, because it elongates the waist and will make you look slender yet
strong at the waist. A drop waist wedding dress has a skirt that starts just
below the hips, as opposed to a skirt that starts at the abdomen. Elongating
your waist with a drop waist dress can be a great way to “flaunt what you’ve
got.” While a drop waist ball gown can look fabulous on a slender bride, a
traditional ball gown is not as good a choice, because the full skirt does start at the abdomen and can cut
short a naturally long and slim waist.
Sheath bridal gowns are another popular choice for slender
brides, and many times, it’s only slender brides that can really get away with
this look. A sheath dress - also known as a column dress - really is gown
specifically designed with tall, statuesque women in mind. While the fabric of
a sheath dress can sometimes be very clingy in some designs, most of these
types of bridal gowns have gently draped fabric that doesn’t huge the body, but
isn’t too full either. Most of the time, it’s a single layer of fabric, without
a whole lot of detailing, however, some styles may be beaded. Some fuller
figured brides can definitely make this look work, but it’s not always easy. If
you have a naturally tall, slim figure, consider trying on some sheath or
column style bridal gowns. Many times, a bride’s first choice is a traditional
A-line wedding dress or a ball gown, but go ahead and try on some sheath bridal
gown styles at your local bridal salon, even if you plan on purchasing your
wedding dress online. You may just end up loving the look they give you!
An open back wedding dress is another excellent choice for
slender brides, especially those with a long torso and a well defined back.
When combined with a sheath wedding gown style, this look can really accentuate
a slender body and make a thin bride look incredible on her wedding day. Some
open back styles show only the upper shoulders, while others are cut all the
way down to the lower back. Depending on how casual or formal your wedding is,
or when your wedding is taking place, you may or may not want to show that much
skin. The best thing to do is try some open back dresses on and see what you
feel makes you look best with your particular body type. If you do decide to
wear an open back dress, make sure to do a few back strengthening exercises to
keep your muscles well defined and toned before the big day!
